History of Black Mountain Bowmen (BMB)

The original club was organized by a few archer in 1948 in San Jose and was named the Black Mountain Bowmen of San Jose. The Original range was located across from the Quick Silver Mine near Hicks Road. The BMB members called the range "Wagner Range" since the road that lead to the range was called Wagner Road. Wagner Road actually split the range into two fouteen target sections. On one side was a tree cover hillside that sloped down to a running creek. The opposite side was more open with some trees. Those archers who attended the MTBA Regional shoots and the BMB open shoots really enjoyed the range. Problems arose concerning the lease and parking concerns and in 1979 BMB moved the range to its current location in Santa Teresa Park.

The club's annual invitational shoot was originally called the Fresno Safari shoot umtil in 1979. at that time the club members changed the named of the shoot to "The Golden Arrow Shoot in Sherwood Forest". The BMB club hosted the first Bowhunter Silhouette Match on 2/6-7/82. In 1993 BMB hosted a new annual shoot called "the Flea Market Shoot". After the constestant completed the organized shoot everyone present was invited to sell, buy or trade any and all used archery equipment. Staring November 11, 1999 BMB has reserved this date for an annual Kids Archery Clinic. The Purpose of this date is to educate youngter about every aspect of archery and hopefully instill a new or continuing interest in archery.

In early 1994 the city of San Jose sponsored a program where orgizations could receive free trees if they signed an agreement to maintain them. BMB agreed and received 150 California Native trees on Arbor Day 1994. Thanks again to faithful BMB members the success rate of those trees fas been miraculous. The present range site has been trasformed into one of California's most beautiful ranges.
