Minutes:
We agreed that
1) club shoots - at this time we all agreed that the following events are the most we could plan for at this time.
a) that we would alternate a 900 round and our course shoot, giving us six
"900 round"s and 6 course events every year.
b) that we would try to get one of the State 900 rounds in the first week of Sept.
c) we would hold a flee market shoot in October - more planing necessary
d) we would hold a 3D animal shoot this spring -
Steve agreed to lead and to get things going with the 3D
2) expenditures - we agreed that we would investigate buying some more bails -
Paul Pope is to take the lead on this.
3) we need to do something about our by laws and constitution - they seem to be out of date and inconsistent
4) Steve said he would ask his employer about holding the BMB meetings where he works.
If that does not work out, there is another suggestion from Parks that sounds very interesting.
March Events -
March 1st - Saturday - first Saturday of the month - work party - lots of work to do.
March 4th - Tuesday - Tuesday night meeting at the regular place - the steak house
March 8th - Sunday - club shoot - the course.
Update
: 1) Aldo and I put together a letter - actually Aldo put it together, I signed it and sent it in.
This letter was to Pam Severtson – 2nd VP Target requesting that BMB host a state 900 round.
2) Paul Pope has taken action to acquire another 50 bails
. 3) I continue to work at the range to clean and clear the original 80 yard target lane -
see attached. The attached is a photo copy of an old map of the range. It was very dirty and had lots of scribbles on it.
I cleaned it as best I can and will continue to work on it.
4) It appears that with all the rain, one of the culverts next to the access road has collapsed.
The only solution to this problem will be to replace it with a steel culvert. Will need much help from the parks department on this one.
5) Phil and I shot the upper half yesterday. a) It appears that some cows entered the range and were wondering around. It also appears that some horses were on the course, perhaps to round up the cows.
b) we continue to find evidence that someone is using broad-heads on the range and in the practice area. This has got to stop. Please be vigilant and get the names of anyone you find using broad-heads. Do not be afraid to ask for names and to inspect their equipment.
c) Thanks to the mystery person who recovered target 20 or 21 protecting it from the rain. Not sure where you got the material, but good job whoever you are. With all the rain, it appears that our bails have survived the storm in very good shape.
Good News
I recently learned that pine tree canker is not always fatal. Seems that well maintained trees which get plenty of water are sometimes able to survive. Its been a wet year, so maybe all is not lost if we trim out the infections.
Saturdays work party.
This is the year that we must renew our lease. In order to do this Parks has asked to inspect our storage areas. At the last work party Aldo lead a major effort to clear the target shed. Well that is a good start, but we need to get all 3 sheds in order. We have the following problems:
a) storage of the 900 round butts.
b) 50 bails on the way
c) inspection
Paul and I have talked it over. We would like to store some of the bails in the equipment shed. This means that it needs to be cleared of the 900 butts. The 900 butts belong in the lower target shed. So it must be completely cleaned first. We would like to get rid of the old lawn mower. We can discuss this at the next meeting. I would like to get a club chain saw. Perhaps we can trade one for the other. So, everyone, come out and help, there is plenty to do.
For those of you who do not like cleaning, we have some other very exciting projects. Now that parks has converted all the brush to chips, we have a massive amount of material that would look really good on our trails. Bring a wheel barrel and some shovels and you can spread it on the trails in those critical areas where we get heavy grass. Nothing can grow through these chips. It would make the trails safer and much more pleasant to use.
