The following unordered list of work projects, club shoots, etc should be considered and planned for the year 2008.
While I have not ordered my list, and the list will surely grow throughout the year as you give me feedback, I can already say that the top priority task is clearly the renewal of our 5 year lease. So without further ado, here is my first hack at this list.
.) extend the lease with the county for another five years. Our lease expires 23 Oct 08.
This one is our top priority
.) find a better place to hold meetings.
1) host the 2008 state 900 round
2) incorporate the club as non profit and related to this is
a) constitution
b) bylaws
c) lease with the county
3) swap meet - used equipment/junk ? shoot
4) 3D shoot
5) dead trees - new trees
Create a map of our range, identify every Monterrey pine tree and check it for pitch pine canker.
See notes below.
7) attract new members -
.) advertise
.) interact with the public in a positive way on the range to attract members
8) standards for rebuilding targets
9) better rain protection
10) resupply of new bales
11) bring constitution and by laws up to date and in agreement with each other.
12) clean up and make our range the most attractive it can be -
I want our range to be as attractive as Mt Madonna
13) club barbecue - get together
14) resurrect the old 80 yard target next to the parking lot - expand it to 100 yards.
Also mark the 70 and 90 meter stations, getting them out of the parking lot and the sun.
15) open date - from Peter Yee - (BMB 60th Anniversary)
16) keep the area behind and around the targets clean and attractive.
17) work with the parks to enforce the rules, learn their rules and ours.
Work party policy. Is there one ?
I have not seen any, but this is my policy. There is clearly a large amount of work of many kinds that needs to be done. Normally, Paul and/or Aldo identify things that they fell need immediate attention. My feeling is that this it fine. However, since very few people show up, I think that people need to know that they can come and work on whatever they want. I would rather see a bunch of people doing something rather than nothing. If we could get 20 people to a work-party even 4 times a year, the amount of work done on the range would be greatly increased.
Personally I really enjoy rebuilding targets, picking up garbage, trimming trees. Cutting grass is hard on my back, but I will do it. So, come to the work parties, identify something that interests you. Aldo says we need to glue up targets, this job is not physically demanding and we need someone to do it.
If anyone can not make the Saturday work party and want to help, you can always contact me and we can go out in the middle of the week, morning, afternoon or evening. If you want to do some work, we will find a way to help you.
P.S.
We have just identified that our range is home to about 60 Monterrey pine trees. A large percentage of them have pitch pine canker. This is a fungal disease which is sweeping California. The link below has pictures of many ways to identify the problem. It lists 8 ways with a fantastic picture of each. I am now convinced that this problem is all over the range. I suspect that every Monterrey pine that we have is infected and we have a lot of them.

From the following http://frap.cdf.ca.gov/pitch_canker/risk_map.html
we see that Knobcone pine and bishop pine are also effected

Allow me to introduce myself, somehow I have been made the president of the Black Mountain Bowman archery club. This year will be my third year in the club. How did this happen?
In case you have not heard the new officers are:
Range Captain: Stephen Wilkinson
Secretary: Aldo Barp
Treasurer: Paul Pope
VP: Patricia Boehm
P Stan Boehm
The contest was a tough one, but it seems that the best we could do was to get one person to run for each office.
So, getting right to it, I would like to explain how I wish to use email and protect your privacy at the same time. Most email which I send to the members of the club will be sent to me as the primary recipient with everyone else being blind copied. Why ?
In that way, the email address of everyone else is hidden to the rest of the members.
From time to time I will be asking the entire membership for their opinion about how the club operates, what they think would help to improve the club, etc.
Now this is very important.
If you choose to reply, do not "Reply to all".
If you "Reply to all", everyone in the blind copy list will get your reply.
The last thing I want is to start an Internet flame war. But since we do not have a newsletter and very few people have been able to find where we meet, this is the only simple and convenient way I have to get input.
The first work party of the new year is Saturday Feb 2 - but it looks like it will be rained out, but you are welcome to come out anyway if you choose.
The first meeting of the new year is Tuesday Feb 5 at the El Rancho Steak House located at 3848 Monterrey Road in San Jose.
P.S. At this time I have only meet a small portion of the members, I hope to meet and know everyone soon. But that requires that you come to a meeting, workparty or club shoot.
I intend to use email as a newsletter and as a tool to increase member participation in the club. So if you really don't want to hear from the me, let me know and I will remove you from my list.
I can't hit the broad side of a barn with my arrows and I can't spell very well either, but I keep trying.
Good shooting
