The Haitian government and the Haitian National Police(HNP) began an arrest campaign aimed at the street kids and young males early this year. This began almost immediately after HSKI publicized and drew attention to the mass executions that had been occuring toward the street kids in Port au Prince. Consequent pressure was placed on the U.N. troops and the HNP concerning the arbitrary executions of these children. The number of executions has since dropped significantly and are no longer done openly and blatenly in view of all, in most cases. Since the arrest campaign was started, thousands of street kids and other young males have been beaten and arrested without any provocation, or charge. "Disappearances" of street kids also continue. There continue to be many reports of beatings, sexual abuse, rape and other abhorrent and contempible acts toward the street kids by these forces with very little attention given to it and without any retribution or penalty for the offender.
